Your First Visit to Our North Las Vegas Practice

Initial Visit Consultation and Examination

Mountain West Chiropractic is not like other medical offices. We are not like many other chiropractic offices either. But, it is what we do that is different that helps our patients achieve such phenomenal results. We don’t accept every patient that comes into our office. Once you have consulted with the doctor and he has evaluated you, fully understands what’s causing your condition and can guarantee your results, THEN he will make recommendations for treatment at that time. We do not simply treat a patient’s symptoms, but strive to do all that we can to find and treat the root cause of the problem.

New patient filling out paperwork

When you first arrive there will be some brief paperwork to complete.

We offer everyone that comes into our office the chance to sit down with the doctor for a FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION. If you are not sure that you have a chiropractic problem or that chiropractic can help treat your condition, then you will have the opportunity to first discuss your conditions with the doctor. During the consultation, the doctor will ask a number of questions regarding your health to determine if your condition is related to your spine and posture. If you have a problem that the doctor believes he can treat, then a detailed physical examination will be performed. The exam will include range of motion, orthopedic, neurological, and radiological testing if indicated as well as a detailed posture evaluation.

The initial visit takes 30 to 60 minutes. Printing out the new patient application from the website and filling it out a head of time will reduce the amount of time spent in the office on your first visit.

After the doctor performs the initial examination and testing, the patient will be scheduled for a return appointment to receive their results of the examination and x-rays if taken. The patient will also begin therapy if they qualify as a patient.

How a Healthy Body Works

The spine has two major functions. It supports our bodies and holds us upright. The way we sit and stand is a direct result of the alignment of the spine. This is called our posture. The spine also houses and protects the spinal cord. Our spinal cord and nerves are extremely vulnerable to damage. This is believed to be why the brain and the spinal cord are encased in bone. A healthy spinal cord is essential to our overall health.

All the functions in the body are directly controlled by the brain. We have over 350 trillion cells in our body that are communicating with our nervous system at all times. The brain is sending energy down the spinal cord to ALL the vital organs and tissues of our entire body. Each and every cell and tissue is totally dependent on that nerve energy to keep us alive and healthy.

Subluxation

Because of different stresses in our lives, some are sudden and some affect us slowly over time, the individual bones or whole sections and curves of the spine can SHIFT out of place. These SHIFTS in the spine are called SUBLUXATIONS. When subluxations occur they block the energy to the organs at that level of the spine. They are like a kink in a garden hose. The energy going through the nerve gets shut down. It can’t get through the nerves to the cells and tissue. As a result, the organs and tissues at the end of those nerves will progressively weaken and degenerate over time and cause disease.

Subluxated areas of the spine will also weaken the rest of the structure of our spine and distort our posture. The most common posture distortion is when the head shifts forward in front of the shoulders. This abnormal posture is referred to as Forward Head Syndrome. When our posture becomes weak and distorted it causes stress to the spinal cord. When our spinal cord is under stress it CAN’T move energy through the spine to all the vital organs and tissues of the body. When the organs and tissues don’t get that vital energy they need for survival, our OVERALL health will progressively weaken and degenerate over time, and eventually lead to disease. So you see, your POSTURE is directly related to your overall health! However, many postural distortions don’t cause any pain. By the time you are in PAIN, the nerves are INFLAMED, and your body is in a CRISIS! While pain is an OBVIOUS SIGN THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG, your spine could be collapsing, causing disease, and accelerated aging in your body AND you may have no idea that it is happening.

Whether you come in to our office because of pain, other health issues, or are seeking to maintain your spine BEFORE there is a problem, we are please you are taking the time to address your spinal care.
